Welcome to May 2022

Good morning and, a very happy May to you all. Here is a reminder of my tours for May (&June)……I might do some last minute ones too, so please keep watching this space. If you are keen to do a particular day then please let me know & I shall endeavor to accommodate.

I am very much looking forward to debuting my brand new walk in the Castel Parish ‘History and Mystery’ from Coast to Park’ as part of the 2022 Spring Walking Festival. What a festival it is going to be, the variety of tours is just outstanding there is something for everyone.

But back to my new tour……

Why the Castel Parish? Well it is my home Parish and, I love it. It’s got pretty much everything, from golden sandy beaches to miles and miles of country lanes, a park, top class restaurants and, good old Cobo Chippy…..is there anything better than watching the sunset whilst scoffing fish and chips out of a paper bag?

My tour starts at the old Cobo fishing harbour (aka by Cobo Kiosk) and, we take the old medieval church path from the coast to the Haye du Puits Estate. This was the path that the fisherman would have taken to the Castel Church, some 2.5 miles from the harbour. The lanes we walk offer some fantastic history, including a WW2 Batterie.

As we reach La Haye du Puits we leave the Church path and, cross onto Saumarez Park (the Estate of the De Saumarez family) and, after a quick comfort/refreshment break we walk around the park learning about the De Saumarez family and, in particular the 4th Baron de Saumarez, who’s influence is still very much apparent in the park today.

We then head back down to Cobo (partially via the nature trail ), where there is an option to round off the tour with fish and chips on the beach (not included in the price) and/or a dip (at own risk) in the sea. You may of course prefer a pint at the Rockmount or, a meal in one of the excellent restaurants.

The Cobo sunset is legendary and, we see some pretty spectacular ones down there. Of course, I cannot guarantee this but, I have certainly tried to time the tour so that if a sunset is available you will be back at Cobo for it.

The cost of the tour is £10pp (not including any refreshments). The tour lasts roughly 2 hours and, whilst there are some steps and, uneven pathways, we will take it all at a very easy pace so this is categorized as easy.
